Division I soccer and two Ironman finishes.

The record. Captain at San Diego State. Still training.

San Diego State

I played Division I soccer at San Diego State University, was named captain of the men’s team, and earned Academic All-Conference honors. I graduated in 2002 with a degree in business administration.

Two Ironman finishes

After college the competitive outlet became endurance sport. I have finished the Ironman distance twice — Ironman California in 2024 and Ironman Maryland in 2025 — and qualified twice for the USA Triathlon world championships, in 2010 and 2011, racing the Olympic distance in my age group.

The distance is 140.6 miles: a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike, and a full marathon, run consecutively.

What carried over

The captaincy carried; the captain problem says why. The endurance mostly did not — long solo hours are the opposite of the job.

Do you still train?

Yes, and largely because the alternative is worse. It is the part of the day that has no email in it.
